What is a Frenectomy?
A frenectomy is the removal of a frenulum from an area within the mouth. It is not uncommon to have a frenulum, both on the upper lip as well as below the tongue. However, when this connective tissue is too hard or too thick, it can cause issues involving movement. This may cause you to have a hard time opening your mouth all the way or lifting your tongue when eating. A frenectomy simply involves cutting this piece of connective tissue so that mobility is restored.

What happens during a Frenectomy?

Sutures aren’t often placed, since the connective tissue should be able to heal on its own. You will then go home with aftercare instructions to help the area to heal properly.
