What are Fluoride Treatments?
Fluoride is one of the most beneficial treatments that can be used to prevent tooth decay. It is ideal for patients who may be vulnerable to developing cavities or who have overly sensitive teeth. Fluoride treatments are most often applied to pediatric patients’ teeth as a way to keep them protected. However, there is no age limit on who can benefit from these treatments.
Why are Fluoride Treatments needed?
Fluoride treatments are ideal for patients looking to further protect their teeth. You might not use fluoride-containing products or drink fluoridated water, so you want a way to keep your teeth healthy and strong. For children, they may not have the best brushing and eating habits to begin with. You may choose these treatments because you already have a lot of fillings and are prone to decay.
Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?
Most patients are good candidates for these fluoride treatments. The treatment takes just minutes in our office and can be done with other procedures. For instance, it’s not uncommon for us to apply fluoride to your child’s teeth following an exam and cleaning. We can examine your teeth to determine if you might benefit from fluoride treatments.
What happens during the Fluoride Treatment process?
The treatment process will begin with fluoride being applied to your teeth. You will not be able to eat or drink for about 30 minutes following the appointment. This prevents the fluoride from being washed away and not being able to do its job. You can have these treatments done at every and any appointment. We may recommend fluoride if we feel you would benefit from having the treatment done. Our goal is to provide you with a full, healthy and strong smile for life.
