Oral Appliances

What are Oral Appliances?

An oral appliance is often used in conjunction with orthodontic treatment and care. These appliances are specifically meant to help realign the teeth and prevent issues involving overcrowding and malocclusion problems. Oral appliances are easy to wear and are custom-fitted to each individual patient. We offer Invisalign Teen in our office as a way to provide high-quality orthodontic care in an invisible and easy-to-wear method.

Why are Oral Appliances needed?

You may need an orthodontic appliance because you are suffering from overcrowding, misalignment or malocclusion problems. Orthodontic problems aren’t just cosmetic, since they can have a serious impact on the overall health of your teeth. In order to combat these problems, we often recommend that you or your child comes in for a treatment plan. During the course of orthodontic treatment, there are many oral appliances that will be used to help achieve the results you both need and want.

What makes you a candidate for Oral Appliances?

Our doctors can examine your teeth to determine if you would benefit from orthodontic care. The majority of people who need or want braces can safely have the procedure done in our office. As part of your orthodontic treatment plan, you can expect to be fitted and to wear many different appliances. These may include lip and cheek bumpers, expanders, headgear and other types of devices.

What can be expected during treatment using Oral Appliances?

The orthodontic treatment process will begin with a consultation. We will take x-rays, impressions and perform an exam to help create a personalized treatment plan just for you. Once we create the plan, we will have you come in every few weeks to follow through with treatment. These types of oral appliances are added into treatment as needed to achieve optimal results. You can expect to undergo orthodontic treatment for anywhere from one to about four years depending on how severe your current orthodontic problems are.
